13 Jun Do You Have Termites?
Termites are the most destructive pests you can have in your home or business. They can cause thousands of dollars in damage if not treated. It is important to know the signs of a termite infestation so you can act quickly. Here are five of the most common signs of termites.
1. Hard to Open Windows/Doors
Termites are attracted to wood that is easily exposed. This includes doors, door frames, and windows. As the termites eat through the wood the doors and windows can become warped making them hard to open or close.
2. Damaged Paint
If you ever see air bubbles or damage under the paint in your home, this can be a sign of termites. It is common for termites to travel throughout your building under the paint. They can feed on any wood paneling underneath the paint as they move about. Other paint damage that you may find is discolored paint/wallpaper or dented or sunken areas underneath.
3. Hollow Wood
It is important to check baseboards, windowsills, and any other wooden features for crumbling or hollow sounds. These are common places termites choose to eat from.
4. Mud Tubes
Mud tubes are tunnels used by termites to travel between the soil and the wood they are feeding on in your home or business. Termites prefer moist and dark conditions, and these tunnels protect them from the dry air and light.
5. Termite Frass
Termite frass is also known as termite droppings. To the untrained eye termite frass can be mistaken for a pile of sawdust. As they eat, they leave behind these droppings so they can have more space to consume wood.
