Exterminators can definitely help you eradicate your home of cockroaches.  However, if you’d like to try something on your own first, consider using adhesive-based traps.  The roaches will be attracted to the glue and then get themselves stuck in it.  This works from catching occasional roaches, but does not completely eliminate the problem because it will not affect the nest itself.  Poisonous roach baits work best because the entire nest can be eradicated, if done properly.
